Hard to believe its October already! Summer is such a busy time here it just flies by. Its been a bumper year for weddings, more people seem to be getting married and more florists have been using us for a mixture of both the traditional English flower wedding and the more exotic and colourful weddings which have enabled us to put our ever growing database of wedding flowers to test on many occasions

Our state of the art Webshop has undergone major work in the last few weeks. With more customers using the shop which carries a vast array of fresh flowers, plants, sundries and gifts the server was unable to cope with the demand on it. So over the period of 4 days we moved to a new, larger server that will cope with the demand and allow us to continue growing the online service we offer.

On the Nurseries its also been flat out. We’re increasing the number and variety of crops we grow next year which means we’re getting the Greenhouses ready now. Red, White & Pink Astrantias and White & Blue Misty Limoniums have already been planted and we’re now getting ready to plant Ranunculus, a difficult crop to grow but a beautiful flower none the less.

Its been a difficult growing year. The persistent wet weather ruined several crops including our Agapanthus, Statice & Phlox but we’ve also had a lot of success this season too, among them our Delphiniums which have been superb and we’re producing some stunning Chrysanthemum Blooms at the moment.
Our family have been growing here in the Tamar Valley for over 100 years but you never stop learning, every year throws up new challenges, you just have to be ready for them!

It’s been a very busy couple of weeks here on and off the nursery now that our flowers are in full swing.

We were very proud to provide the flowers & plants for the Queens Royal Jubilee visit to Exeter on Wednesday the 2nd of May. The flowers expertly arranged by Richard Cullen and his team made a stunning backdrop which showed up beautifully on television and not just for the Royal visit but also on the BBC’s ‘The Voice’ show which featured a singer from Exeter filmed in front of one of the floral displays.

This week our flowers will feature at the Devon County Show with a several of our florists making displays between the 17th and 19th at Exeter’s Westpoint show ground.

And it doesn’t stop there with the Chelsea flower show fast approaching; we’ll have our flowers there again this year. Look out for our beautiful Stocks & Snapdragons displayed by the award winning team from Tregothnan.

What with the wedding season in full swing it’s busy busy busy!!!!  Just wish it didn’t feel like winter at 5am every morning!!

This is always our favourite time of year. This week we started picking our Stocks, Delphiniums & Snapdragons. If it wasn’t so cold it would feel like summer!

The weather plays an important role in all of our lives but when you’re growing flowers the weather rules all. The unusually warm March gave all our crops an early boost that has helped them to produce probably the best quality flowers we’ve had for many years. But the cold weather of late has slowed down production and stalled some of the crops from flowering on time which is not ideal when the next batch of plants in the rotation are due to be planted in that house next week.

More sunshine please!!!

On the Wholesale side of the business the wedding season is really kicking in early this year. This has been our busiest April I can remember for weddings, hopefully a good sign that things are picking up.
